In today’s retail landscape, design isn’t just about aesthetics — it’s about creating real experiences, telling meaningful stories, and making brand values tangible through space, materials, and atmosphere. The North Sails flagship store in Saint Tropez is a perfect example of how a brand can stand out by turning its retail space into a narrative-driven, innovative, and sustainable concept.

North Sails has always been more than just a name in sailing circles. Known worldwide for technical and lifestyle sportswear, the brand is built on solid pillars: excellence, a spirit of adventure, respect for nature, and a deep love for the sea. When it came time to refresh its image and reposition itself in the market, retail design became a strategic tool — a way to translate these values into an immersive, three-dimensional experience.

Choosing Saint Tropez for the new flagship store was no coincidence. This iconic harbor is synonymous with elegance, performance, and a nautical lifestyle — the ideal backdrop to express North Sails’ DNA and connect with its community.

Working together with Marcel Mauer and Vanda+Marcel, we shaped a space that is a living narrative of what North Sails stands for.

One of the defining aspects of this project is its commitment to sustainability. Staying true to North Sails’ mission to protect the oceans, every design decision aimed to reduce environmental impact while telling a clear story.
Take the table at the entrance: 3D-printed from recycled ocean plastic, It’s a beautiful piece of design but it’s also a bold, visible statement of responsibility. A piece that invites dialogue and sparks reflection.

Nothing in the Saint Tropez flagship is left to chance. Light, sanded woods evoke boat decks; translucent, wavy surfaces mirror the sea; technical fabrics recall the sails themselves. These materials create a space that feels authentic and immersive — a place where visitors experience the North Sails story instinctively, without needing to read a single sign.

Designing a flagship for North Sails meant working with a brand that already has a strong identity but wants to keep evolving. The challenge: innovate while staying true to the brand’s roots.
Every element — materials, layout, lighting, and messaging — aligns with the brand’s philosophy. Good retail design is never just about form — it is content, strategy, and three-dimensional branding.

In a moment of repositioning, North Sails used its flagship store as a tangible way to present a renewed vision. More than showcasing products, the store communicates a set of values: sustainability, performance, and a passion for the sea.

Done right, a flagship store becomes a strategic tool: it attracts, engages emotionally, and stays memorable. That was our goal — to create a space that feels authentic and worth sharing..

A flagship store is a statement. And with this project, we helped North Sails clearly declare who they are, what they believe in, and where they are headed.
